WELCOME TO THE NEWLY CREATED NEWSGROUP COMP.COMPRESSION This newsgroup was created to act as a forum for the exchange of information on the rapidly moving field of data compression. (Note: Some sites are still running ALT.comp.compression even though it was rmgrouped 0.5hrs after it was created! Get rid of it - we've got a respectable newsgroup now!) Data compression techniques are used to reduce the size of data so that it can be stored in less space and communicated in less time.
