[comp.compression] ARJ 2.00 -t1 option

robjung@world.std.com (Robert K Jung) (04/22/91)

Here is information about the -t1 option of ARJ. This is used for
compressing 7-bit text files. Currently, ARJ does not warn you if
you try to use this option to compress a binary file. When using the
-t1 option, ARJ will determine the end of file when a CTL Z is
encountered. This is normal behavior for ending text files in MS-DOS.
This is documented in ARJ.DOC and in the built in help screen as
t1: force C text type. One of the reasons for the lack of a warning
is the wide variety of text file representations. For example, PRIMOS
text files are 8-bit files. I will put a warning in the MS-DOS version
of ARJ to notify the user when the text size and the binary size differ
appreciably.
