Greetings! The Norwegian National Library (where I work) is about to start a project in connection with the upcomming local elections. We are going to store all the election material in such a way that is is easy for researchers and others to get at it. This means that we are going to scan all printed matter. What is paramount is that the retrival of the image for display should not require any special hardware. Currently it looks like the retrieval computer must be IBM PC compatible. In addition to the scanned images we plan a fulltext database of the text in the material. Have any of you out there in netland any suggestion with regard to scanners, storage devices, software and _compression method_? Are there any canned applications out there? Please reply by e-mail.
