From: keith%clodii.columbiasc.ncr.com@RELAY.CS.NET Hi to Everyone! First let me thank each person who had a part in helping to get this group started up. I think it will help to promote a positive image for hunting as a sport and recreation that can be enjoyed by those who choose to participate. I personally have enjoyed hundreds of hours spent in the woods while observing nature at work here in South Carolina. Hunting is not for everyone but the 5 to 25 percent who engage in it have a right to discuss this activity on a public forum such as the net in my opinion. Once again, thanks people! Now to the subject: The Spring Turkey season is set to open on April 1st here in South Caro- lina. This is a great time to be outdoors as the temps. are usually mild here and the trees and plantlife are blooming. Even if I don't bag a big gobbler I still enjoy the hunt! It is a thrill just to hear an old tom let out with a gobble on a cool Spring morning just as daylight breaks and all the birds are singing. I plan to go out this weekend and scout some hunt- ing grounds and see if I can get some to gobble with my owl and crow calls. If I have good results I may post them next week. Also, I plan to post the results of my hunts through the season. I will only get to hunt on Saturdays so they will be short! Man, these birds are tough to get in close and even tougher when your calling is not to their liking. In the 8 or so years I have been hunting them I have managed to harvest 6 so I will see how it goes. Also, Columbia is host to an annual event each year called the Palmetto Sportsman's Classic held the third weekend in March at the State Fairgrounds There are a variety of events, exhibits, demonstrations, films, and lectures promotimg hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities. Also, there is a Turkey calling contest. One new event they have added this year is a bow tournament which is part of the BuckMasters Tournament Series and will be a two day elimination type which will feature 30 archers who have already been selected. Some may have seen this series before on the TNN cable channel. I plan to try to attend at least part of the show and will try to post high- lights afterwards. Later! Keith Boyd --- | Keith M.
