From: parker@milton.u.washington.edu (Michael Parker) I do a lot of waterfowl hunting in the Pacific Northwest and am looking to adding a 10 gauge to my arsenol. My field techniques range from simply pass shooting to the complete decoy spread method. I generally hunt Mallard ducks and greater Candian geese from ranges of 0-80 yards. Currently, I have been using a 12 gauge Remington Wingmaster with variable choke and depending on the load, have had good success. The only problem I have with this system is this: There are just some days when no matter how go the calling is and how good the spread is, the geese will simply just not land and will have nothing to do with my flock. I normally do not enjoy "pass" shooting but have found that at ranges of 80-100 yds, a 3' BB Steel magnum round usually is not very effective. Occasionally, a couple will drop, usually not completely dead, but most seem to be uneffected by the shot. I am interested in hearing from someone who has field experience with 10 gauges and thier wisdom and knowledge would be helpful. I am looking at new to very good condition guns and would prefere a pump over automatic because I shoot left handed and do not like to watch bolts fly open and closed. Also, information on ammunition used would also be helpful. Thanks and happy hunting. Michael Parker
