IMHO on. I started with a 22 LR bolt action with a tube magazine (under the barrel type). I went though the Jr NRA program and alot of time with my dad and grandfather. All of them stressed shot placement and control. All of them said that an auto would not enforce the marksmanship required of a good hunter/target shooter. Later in life I have shot with an auto pistol and a rifle but my first instinct is to place my shots rather than squeeze one off quick and know that I can squeeze another right away. I don't know of anyone (personally) that has better shot placement who was taught on auto's (harder to reverse train?). I would recommend that any first time shooter be trained with a single shot or slowly operated bolt rifle or revolver to avoid all temptation... I would even say this applies to first time shotgun use for birds or clay. Most all shotgunners I know aim and pull their three shots right away - they also don't get any more birds/clay than me and my pump. IMHO off. Single Shot Jim -- James B.
