a turkey hunter from minneapolis was shot while hunting in missouri this past spring. the shooter was a friend of a friend hunting with the minnesotan. this hunter fired at a target he could not see and very seriously injured the victim. a cardinal rule is never shoot at a target you cannot identify and i am still amazed that this guy took the shot. i passed up a turkey this spring because although it was only about 20 yards away the sun was glaring and i could not be sure it wasn't a hen. it is totally irresponsible to fire at sound or movement when the hunter has no idea of what he/she is shooting at. at least for a great many of us, hunting is not about killing. addendum: did anyone have any luck during the spring gobbler season? (getting birds i mean :-] ).

A good friend of mine bagged a very nice gobbler here in Va. during spring gobbler season. It had three beards which were 9 1/2, 7, and 4 1/2 inches long. I also bagged a nice bird as well, he weighed 18 lbs and had a 9 1/2 inch beard. My dad heard this turkey while out looking for morels (an edible mushroom) on Sunday afternoon. He called me that evening and asked me to come by Monday morning early before I went to work. It was only about a ten minute walk from my dad's house, so I said I would. That ol' tom gobbled very well despite the wind and rain. About twenty minutes after he flew off the roost, I saw his snow white head bobbing along and he was gobbling for everything he was worth. Not bad for thirty minutes worth of hunting before work :-).
