News, comentary and the Radio news reel ==================================================================== The election commission has ordered repolling in another 287 polling stations in four states, the eastern states of Bihar and W.Bengal, the northern state of U.P and the southern state of Andhra Pradesh. With this the total number of polling stations where re-polling is to take place, has gone upto 1454. The repolling will take place on Wednesday. New Schedule for countermanded Punjab seats: ============================================ The election commission has approved new schedule for holding elections in five more assembly constituencies where elections had been counter- manded. Announcing this in Chandigarh, the chief electoral officer, Mr.Tejindher Khanna, said that the affected assembly constituencies where where the poll will be held along with the rest of the state on June 22 next are: Adampaur, Sherpur, Bhadaur, Dharamkot and Naushera Panuwan. The EC had already announced the same schedule for one LS constituency of Ludhiana and six assembly constituencies of Moga, Bhagapurana, Dhanula, Dirba, Sangrur and Jalandhur Cantt where also the elections has been countermanded because of killings of candidates. Counting of votes to begin on June 16: ======================================= Counting of vites in the LS and assembly constituencies where polling was held on My 20, will commence on June 16 before 9:00(IST) a.m.., the chief EC Mr.T.N.Sheshan said on Friday. The constituencies where polling will be held on June 6 and 8 will also be taken up on June 16 before 9:00 am, he said. Counting of votes in Meghalaya, Mizoram nd Nagaland would be taken up on June 17 before 9:00am. Counting of votes in the case of LS and assembly constituencies, where polling will be held on June 12, 15, will begin before 9:00am on June 17, he said. In constituencies where there was difficult in transporting ballot boxes to the counting centres beofre 9:00am on June 16, counting of votes would takes place one June 17 beofre 9:00 am.
