Accoring to this morning's AIR news, moderate to heavy polling has been reported. Violence rocked Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, U.P and Orissa. Atleast 10 persons reported to have been killed in Siddipet and Kurnool areas of Andhra, five persons reported to have been killed in Lucknow. In Orissa, election for a parliamentray const has been countermanded following the killing of an independent candidate. Today's poll covered 35 parliamentary seats each in AP, 39 in TN, 43 in UP, 20 in Orissa and a lone seat in Pondi. ( AIR omitted other states ). The entire state of Punjab has been declared as 'disturbed area'. Heavy army patrolling has been reported in several sensitive cities. The dist of Hoshiarpur, Jallundhur and Bhatinda along with nine other dists have been declared disturbed, and the army has started conducting flag march in several cities to instill confidence among the people of the state. The president of Maldives Mohd.Abdu Ghayum arrived in New Delhi this morning. He called on the PM Mr.Chandra Shekar. Mr.Ghayum is scheduled to meet the President and Mrs.Sonia Gandhi. In Kashmir valley, 41 pakistani trained terrorists reported to have surrendered with large cache of arms and ammunition. According to AIR, counting of votes begins at 9:00 in the morning tomorrow(Sunday) and the first result is expected by noon local time. End of article ==============
