Deepika Chikalia (Sita in the TV serial Ramayana) has won (BJP). Madhu Dandavate has lost to Sawant (Cong-I). CPI(M) is leading in West Bengal. Lucknow ( Uttar Pradesh ) ========================= Former prime minister Mr V P Singh has established a lead of over 7,000 votes in fatehpur constituency. first reports of counting of votes in Uttar Pradesh showed the Bharatiya Janata party leading in over 25 assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat. Former chief minister Mr N D tiwari is trailing behind his BJP rivals both in Haldwani assembly and Nainital Lok Sabha constituencies. So is his party colleague, former union minister Mr anil shastri in the allahabad parliamentary constituency. Mr. Ajit Singh of the Janata Dal continues to maintain his lead in the Baghpat (ls) and Chaprauli (assembly) seats. In baghpat, Mr Singh has established a lead of over 52,000 votes against his closest BJP rival, ranvir Singh, after four rounds of counting. The Samajwadi Janata party is not leading in any of the constituencies, official reports at 1430 hours said. Punjab elections as scheduled ============================== New Delhi: The election commission today said elections in the troubled state of Punjab will be held on June 22 as scheduled. The chief election commissioner, Mr T N Seshan, told newsmen here that the situation in the state was being closely monitored in the wake of increased violence by militants. Asked whether the commission was contemplating change in poll schedule in the state, Mr Seshan said ''at the moment i have nothing to tell you''. Mr Seshan said the commission had not received any communication from the centre regarding change of poll schedule in the state. The CEC said, so far, elections were countermanded in one Lok Sabha seat and 12 of the 117 assembly constituencies in the state due to death of candidates. Ahmedabad: Gujrat: ================== the BJP and the Cong(I) captured one seat each, while the former was in the lead in 14 other seats and the latter in four others. Ms Deepika Chikhalia, +Sita+ of the tv serial +Ramayana+, was the winner for the BJP in Baroda and Mr Uttambhai patel for the Congress-i in Bulsar. BJP not in favour of coalition govt: ==================================== New Delhi: the Bharatiya Janata party is not in favour of forming coalition governments in states or at the centre with other parties if it comes in the way of the party's commitment to people. Questioned on doordarshan, the BJP general secretary, Mr govindacharya, mentioned ramjanam bhoomi as one of the issues on which the party cannot and will not compromise. ''What is more important is the party's commitment to people not forming coalition governments,'' he said. Mr govindacharaya said the ''sympathy wave'' after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi did affegt BJP's prospegts in some areas. To another question, he replied he had not given up hopes as yet of the party's chances of forming government at the centre. ''It's still too early,'' he said. End of article ==============
