New Delhi,June 17 : The Prime Minister, Mr Chandra Shekhar, recaptured the ballia Lok Sabha seat in U.P. By defeating his nearest Congress(I) rival, Mr jagannath chowdhary by a margin of over 60,000 votes. The Congress(s) leader and former union communication Minister, Mr k.P.Unnikrishnan, also captured the badagara Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, according to doordarshan. The slain Congress(I) leader, Mr Rajiv Gandhi, was declared elected from the amethi Lok Sabha seat by a margin of over 1,15,000 votes. In west Bengal, the left party alliance _as well set to secure two third majority in assembly. The alliance has already captured 175 of the 294 assembly seats for which elections were held. Mr Bhupinder Singh, who was declared elected, humbled the Haryana patricrch by a margin of 30,537 votes. Mr Devi Lal had already lost the ghirai assembly constituency. Congress-icandidate sunil dutt (Bombay north west) and BJP gandidate ram naik (Bombay north) have established a clear lead of over ?0,000 votes each over their respective rivals at the`end of the fourth round. In neighbouring thane constituency, the BJP candidate prof Ram Kapse was leading by a wafer-thin margin of 126 votes over his Congress-irival Mr Harbansh singh, at the end of tHe seventh round. In the reserved Dahanu constutency, the CPM candidate, Mr Lahanu Kom, who established an initial lead, is now in a third position with Congress-icandidate D B Shingada leading followed by BJP at the end of the seventh round. Bombay poll-bom-trend 2 last in the labour-dominated south central constituency, Mr Dada Saheb Rupawate of Congress-i was trailing by 419 votes over Shiv Sena gandidate, Mr ]ohan rawale. In the prestigious south Bombay constituency, Mr Murli Deora, who is contesting for the third time, is ahead by about 5,000 votes over his BJP vival, Mr premKUmar sharma, according to the latest trends available. In north-west Bombay, the Congress-icandidate, sunil dutt, has established a lead of over 54,000 votes over his nearest Shiv Sena rival, Mr ramesh prabhoo. In the Bombay north constituency, Mr ram naik has also established a similar`lead over Mr b a desai of the Congress-i. In Bombay north east constitutency, Mrs jaywantiben mehta of BJP is trailing behind Congress-i's Mr guruDas kamat by 28,920 votes. Veteran journalist and dramatist, Mr vidyadhar gokhale has gained a lead of 3,600 votes over Congress-icandidate, Mr sharad dighe, former speaker of the Maharashtra assembly. Newdelhi ======== Cong +appreciates+ Basu, ajit Singh views new Delhi,`June 17 the Congress-itoday +appreciated+ the statements from the CPI-m and the Janata Dal about the possibility of their support to a minority Congress government, but said no no final position could be taken till all the results were out. The party spokesman, Mr pranab mukherjee, told newsmen that no no party could take a clear stand at the moment as they were yet to set in motion the decision-making process on the nature of possible alliances. Mr Mukherjee waid he had noticed the views of the CPI-m leader Mr Jyoti Basu and the Janata Dal leader Mr ajit Singh in newspaper reports but clarified that no no move has been initiated on the question of support by either of the parties. He conceded that the Congress (I) was not not likely to get a simple majority on its own and that it would remain as the single largest party. +We want to have a majority, but it is not not there+, he said. Bombay Stock market ==================== Bombay June 17 the stock market has reacted favourably to the initial results of the Lok Sabha elections. The election results, sofar declared, shows that no party would get majority and there would be a hung parliament. The general feeling among the brokers is that the Congress would be asked to form the government. Brokers are interested in knowing the leader of the Congress party. Brokers are satisfied with the policy decisions taken by the Congress during their regime and hence if Congress forMs the government the market would turn bullish. Market resumed bullish and prices rallied further on sustAined buying. However, a part of the initial gains were wiped out later on bear selling pressure. The final list showed small gains. Speculative activity was centred on select scrips like acc, tisco, reliance, Bombay dyeing, spic, ge ship and bajaj auto. Price swings in these scrips were also fairly wide. The sensitive index initially improved to 1323.39 From 1292.81 But later dropped to close at 1307.22. The national index rose by 8.56 Points to 64u.00. In forward section, Bombay dyeing and reliance were the star performers. Acc, ge ship, asian paints, castrol, grasim, colgate, tisco, spic and ponds finished better while Baroda rayon, glaxo, eskayef, hoechst, prem auto and orkay closed lower.
