The BJP leader Mr.A.B.Vajpayee has been declared elected from the Lucknow LS constituency. He already won from Vidisha lok sabha constituency. The union minister Mrs.Maneka Gandhi has lost to a BJP candidate from Pilibit. The former Bihar CM Mr.Abdul Bashir has been declared elected from Bhopal Gunj. He defeated his nearest Cong(I) rival Mr.Hari Prasad Pande by a margin of 1.12 lakh votes. The PM Mr.CS has retained Ballia LS constituency. He defeated his nearest Cong(I) rival Mr.Choudhary by a margin 59,104 votes. The former U.P. CM Mr.N.D.Tiwari has been defeated. He lost to Mr.Balraj Shastry of BJP by a margin of 11,000 votes. The former union ministers Mr.George fernadez and Ram Bilas Paswan have been declared elected. While Mr.Fernandez retained his old constituency, Mr.Paswan defeated his nearest Cong(I) rival Mr.Ashok Kumar Rao by over 2.70 lakh voters. Most results are now awaited from U.P., Bihar, Assam and W.B. In state assemblies elections, the ruling left front has secured two thirds majority and is poised to form the govt for the fourth consecutive term. In Haryana, all the ninety results have been declared. The CongI has won an absolute majority. In Pondi, the Cong(I), AIADMK alliance has secured two thirds majority, while in Tamilnad, the AIADMK on its own won two thirds majority. The 10th lok sabha will be constituted tomorrow.
