New Delhi, June 19: The Janata Dal is totally
averse to joining hands with the Congress(I) in forming a
coalition government at the centre and it will sit in the
opposition, party sources said.
This view has emerged after a four-hour meeting of the
political affairs committee of the party which discussed the
post-election scene last evening and this morning.
The Janata Dal, the major constitutent of the national
front, will formally announce its +views+ after consultations
with other constitutents as well as the left parties, the
sources said.
The coordination committee of the national front and
left parties will meet here tomorrow to take +one common
view+.
The Janata Dal spokesman, Mr.S.Jaipal reddy, meanwhile,
told newsmen here that he would disclose the stand taken by
his party only after +inter-acting with the national front and
left parties.+
Mr.Reddy said that the question of his party extending
support to the Congress(I) to form the government at the
centre did not not arise and +we will sit in the opposition.+
Asked whether the party would have +soft corner+ for the
Congress(I) government, Mr.Reddy said +we will play the role
of opposition and we will neither be hard nor soft.+
In reply to another question, Mr.Reddy said that the
tenure of the new government would depend on its +performance,
programmes and policies. We will, however, wish the new
government a full five-year term.+
The country needed a stable government and +we will not
be anxious to destablise the new government as the people
would not like to go for elections in the near future,+ he
said.
On the possibility of left parties joining the
Congress(I)-led coalition government , Mr.Reddy said +we have
full faith in them and they have full naith in us.+
