Contest and if it was consensus who was their choice.
Later in an informal chat with reporters, former union
Minister S.B. Chavan, who was one of the prominent Maharashtra
leaders who had participated in a campaign a few months back
for the removal of Mr Pawar, expressed satisfaction that the
leadership issue was being resolved unanimously.''Der aaye,
durust aaye'', he said in hindi.

Asked whether the action of Mr Pawar would create bad
blood in the party, he replied in the negative saying that
these things are part of the democratic functioning.

Asked to comment on the withdrawal of Mr Pawar from the
race in favour of Mr Rao, former deputy speaker of the Lok

''Those who had not expected it had not understood the
psychology of Congress'', he said.

Mr Patil said the procedure adopted by the parliamentary
board to ascertian the views of members on the leadership
issue was as good as ballot.

Senior party leader and a close associate of Mr Pawar,
Mr A.G. Kulkarni, mp, said he was happy that the democratic
process had been reestablished in the party and it would only
help strengthening the organisation.
