There are also some news items from the latest issue of News India. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Sindh Chief Minister and Pakistani PM met the Pakistani president Mr. Ghulam Ishak Khan today and reviewed the situation in Sindh, particularly relating to the events of kidnapping, ransom, and extortion. Pakistani COAS General Mirza Afzal Beg retires on 17 August 1991. His three years term expires on that day. (Times of India had reported a few days back that Mr. Asif Nawaz will be assuming the post of COAS after that day. The article in TOI by Inder Malhotra had loudly wondered why the name of the successor has been announced so early. According to convention the name is announced only 30 days in advance. This convention was stuck to in the recent past only when the name of the new Pakistani chief of Air force was announced exactly 30 days before the retirement of the outgoing Airforce chief.) A New Car Plant (TOYOTA) is being established near Karachi. It is expected to go into production from next fiscal year which starts from July 1991. News India reports in its issue of June 21st that in an interview Benazir Bhutto has alleged that the Government is pressurizing her husband to divorce her in exchange for his being let off the legal hooks.
