New delhi, june 26: In yet another breakthrough,
the special investigation team (sit) has arrested another sri
lankan tamil youth, jaikumar, who allegedly provided shelter
to sivarasan, the one-eyed hardcore ltte militant, after the
assassination of rajiv gandhi, official sources said today.
The sources told pti that sivarasan, the kurta-clad man
seen in a photograph taken at sriperumbudur on may 21 night,
stayed at the house of jaikumar in madras for two days after
having masterminded the assassination plot.
Subha, a sri lankan tamil woman, and nalini, who has
been arrested, were also provided shelter by jaikumar for two
days along with sivarasan, who is believed to be the third man
in command in the ltte intelligence wing, the sources said.
the ltte intelligence wing chief is called +pottu+, the
sources said.
With the arrest of jaikumar, the sources said the
investigators were now quite certain the assassination was
masterminded by a sri lankan tamil militant group.
Jaikumar, in his twenties, would be produced before a
court and remanded to police custody under the provisions of
the anti-terrorist act and the indian penal code. he has been
charged with harbouring the killers of mr gandhi as well as
conspiracy.
The sources said jaikumar was related to robert payas, a
man from jaffna, who was arrested a few days back.
The sources said payas was allegedly receiving calls
from jaffna in madras and in turn passing messages to his
masters. a particular telephone installed at a public call
office was being used by him.
Payas along with another arrested sri lankan youth,
murugan, had crossed over to tamil nadu from jaffna without
valid documents sometime in january this year, the sources
said. murugan was believed to be an active member of the ltte.
Jaikumar, who is being subjected to intensive
interrogation, had identified sivarasan, the key conspirator,
from photographs shown to him.
The sources said that sivarasan and others went to lord
venkateshwara temple in tirupati from jaikumar's house.
Besides jaikumar, the other sri lankan tamils arrested
in the case were payas and murugan. the indians from madras
taken into custody were nalini, a 27-year-old private firm
stenographer, her brother, bhagyanathan, 25, and her mother,
padma, 49, and perarivalan, a ?? year old youth.

The UGC was also making +an effective net-working+ with
the monopolies and trade practices commission (mrtpc), so
actions initiated by it against fake universities could
complement those taken by the mrtpc to combat the mushrooming
of such education shops, the release said.
The universities identified by the ugc as fake were:
maithili university, darbhanga (bihar), takshila kendriya
vishwavidyalaya, delhi, mahila gram vidyapith, prayag,
allahabad (u.p), varanaseya sanskrit`vishwavidyalaya, varanasi
(u.p), commercial university ltd., delhi, testator research
university, quilon (kerala), gandhi hindi vidyapeeth, prayag,
allahabad, national university of electro complex homeopathy,
kanpur (u.p), universitetu newjerusalem, kuthuparamba, cannore
(kerala), netaji subhash chandra bose university, aligarh
(u.p), mahadevi verma open university, mughalsarai (u.p),
d.d.b. sanskrit university, trichi (tamil nadu), amrytsar
university, amritsar (punjab), arya university, srinagar (j
and k), bible university, ambur (tamil nadu), globe university
of science, kumbakonam (tamil nadu), st john's university,
kizhanattam, united nations university, delhi, vocational
university, amritsar and delhi, western university, kapurthala
(punjab), u.p. vishwavidyapeeth, mathura (u.p) and mahara^a
pratap shiksha niketan vishwavidyalaya, pratapgarh (u.p), the
release added.
Newdelhi:
Dr. Joshi said the BJP was opposed to the IMF loan in
principle as it meant mortgaging the nation and it made a
mockery of self-reliance.
However, the party may reconsider its stand if the
government gives a solemn undertaking that this will be the
very last loan and the loan as well as the conditions must be
discussed with the opposition parties beFore the loan
agreement is signed, he said.
He said the BJP was opposed to the IMF insisting on the
entry of multinationals in the consumer sector which only
showed that the government did not have the political will to
tackle inflation or the public sector.
He said neither the IMF loan nor the entry of
multinationals nor the promise of liberalisation could be of
much use unless they can bring prices down, create jobs and
increase the supply of goods and services for the common man.

Bangladesh and Awami League Chief Sheikh Hasina Wajed today
criticised the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's reported move to
construct Ram Temple at Ayodhya.
In a statement here, she said such a step would +create
a sense of insecurity among muslims and democratic and
progressive forces in India and threaten communal harmony.+
