      Chengalpattu (TN), jun 27  S.Jaikumar, a sri lankan
Tamil who was arrested in madras yesterday by the cbi in
connection with the rajiv gandhi assassination case, had given
shelter to all prominent accused in the case before and after
the sriperumbudur blast, the special investigating team (SIT)
told the chief judicial magistrate here today.

      Jaikumar, 29, the seventh person to be arrested in the
case, was produced before the magistrate, Mr M Vadivel Ratnam,
and was remanded to 30 days' police custody. Mr Ratnam
directed that he be produced in sound condition on july 26.

      The investigating officer of the sit, Mr K Ragothaman,
while producing Jaikumar, said he hailed from Kokkuvil in
Jaffna in sri lanka's north-east, and had given shelter to the
alleged assassin, Dhanu, her suspected accomplices, the
one-eyed Sivarasan, Subha, Nalini and Murugan.

      While Dhanu, Sivarasan and Subha stayed in Jaikumar's
rented house at Kodungaiyur, a suburb of Madras, a week before
the blast, nalini, murugan, along with Sivarasan and Subha
stayed in the same house two days after the assassination, the
SIT said.

      Jaikumar was stated to be a cousin of Robert Payas,
another Sri Lankan Tamil, who was arrested earlier. he stayed
both at the Porur residence of Payas, and in his own
Kodungaiyur house, where he resided with his wife and child.

      He was arrested under sections 302, 307 and 326 IPC,
section three of the terrorist and disruptive activities
prevention act (TADA) and sections three and five of the
explosive substances act. 

      The CBI said that in raids conducted at Jaikumar's house
a number of incriminating documents and other materials
relating to the case were seized.

      He had no valid passport or other documents. he was
arrested at 1800 hrs last evening at the SIT premises in
madras, where he was brought for questioning.
He is the seventh accused in this case. the other six who
have been arrested so far are: Bhagyanathan, Padma, Nalini,
Murugan, Robert Payas and Perarivalan. Of these, Murugan and
Payas are sri lankan tamils, while the others are locals.
Jaikumar was brought to the chengalpattu court amidst
tight security from madras.
