Administrative note about this newsgroup/list: Since we started feeding information into this newsgroup and list a few weeks ago, there has been a very heavy load of FTP inquiries (anonymous login, listing directories) to the machine that is being used to launch the files into the networks. It is a very small machine, used as the primary host for the International Network of Food Data Systems (INFOODS), a collaborative, UN-sponsored project in the improvement and interchange of data about the nutrient composition of foods eaten by humans. The term "network" is used there in the "people network" sense, not the "computer network" one. The heavy FTP load disrupts other work on the machine, and this service will be discontinued if it continues. So, we know you are curious, folks, but please stop it. Also, anything that appears here is either hand-keyed into the machine or processed through primitive scanners and OCR equipment that takes nearly as long or longer. Consequently, suggestions for additional materials to be included can be viewed favorably only if they contain a plan about how they can prepared and sent to the list in machine- readable form. In other words, this is a low-resource volunteer activity that will continue only as long as it has low impact on both machines and people. ------------------------------ The following is a "News Release" from Accredited Standards Committee X3 describing a preliminary draft for a Standard. It is *not* an announcement from ANSI; comments should be submitted as indicated and not to BSR. -------------------------------- X3 ANNOUNCES A CALL FOR COMMENTS ON X3 PROJECT 682-D, DOMESTIC PUBLIC/PRIVATE X.25 NETWORK INTERWORKING Washington, D.C.--Accredited Standards Committee X3, Information Processing Systems announces the solicitations of comments for X3 Project 682-D, Domestic Public/Private X.25 Network Interworking. This draft is being developed in Task Group 7 (X353.7) of Technical Committee X353. Data Communications. The committee is soliciting comments at this time in order to produce a standard that is accurate. complete and reflects the needs of industry. This draft standard describes the interworking between two packet switched data networks (PSDNs) via an X.25 link. This draft standard would typically be used for interworking between a packet switched public data network (PSPDN) and a packet switched private data network (PSPvtDN). This draft standard specifles the general addressing and routing principles associated with two PSDNs and their interworking as well as the procedures to be followed by and interworking function (IWF) that is used to connect the PSPDN and the PSPvtDN. The call for comments extends from March 14, 1991 through May 13, 1991. Comments received after the deadline will be considered during the processing of subsequent drafts. The cost of this draft standard is S3.00.
