Yeah, right. And the "Jiffy Cable Company" sells descramblers
and the matching test sets only to experimenters, not for the
purpose of defrauding cable TV vendors.

Please guys; let this man know that not only will you not buy
the power amp, he can keep his other stuff as well, 'cause
you're not interested in doing business with someone who trades
in contraband. Note that he could have said "for sale only to a
licensed amateur radio operator who's in the callbook." He didn't.

You might also let his system administrator know that his system
is being used to traffic in merchandise intended for the violation
of federal law.

Caveat emptor, in any case. Many of the "linears" manufactured for
CB use are absolute trash, and just not up to par in terms of
signal quality. Seems that the "outlaws" are more concerned with
how loud they are than with how good they sound. Surprise, surprise.

By the way, WA0VFY; does the FCC know that WA0VFY is trafficing
in illegal CB linears? I wonder how long it takes for your call
to appear under the heading of "Suspensions and Revocations" in
QST's "Happenings" column?

Thats right. Also, be sure to boycott every auto parts store
in the country because they all sell parts marked "for off road use only"
to people without having proof that its not going to be used on the street.
And be sure to boycott grocery stores because they sell chemicals that
can be used to make high explosives (to minors, even)! Be sure to avoid
electronics supply houses that sell the components to make *illegal*
transmitters to people who don't even know how to solder, let alone licenced
hams.

Get a clue. He said what it was. If you don't want it, don't buy it.

Sorry, Title 47 Code of Federal Regulations Part 2 Paragraph 815.
(It's reprinted in the ARRL's "The FCC Rule Book")

subparagraph b
"After April 27, 1978, no person shall manufacture, sell or lease, offer
for sale or lease (including advertising for sale or lease), or import, ship
or distribute for the purpose of selling or leasing or offering for sale or
lease, any external radio frequency power amplifier or amplifier kit capable
of operation on any frequency or frequencies between 24 and 35 MHz."

Subparagraph a gives a definition of what and External radio frequency
power amplifier is. Subparagraph c says all power amps that operate below
144 Mhz have to be type accepted, subparagraphs d and e give some expemptions
to hams, (and only hams).

Also part 97 (the ham regs) paragraphs 315 and 317 give more fine
print on what hams can do. Like only sell or make one a year of
any one model.

Mark is ABSOLUTELY correct. The `gentlemen' in question BROKE FEDERAL
LAW by even submitting the for sale notice. I will not hesitate to point
out that ignorance of the law has never been a defense ;-).

P.S. I think the regulation basically sucks but it is law. The pain it
has caused amateurs wanting 10 meter amplifiers is (while not an
insurmountable obstacle) a real thorn in the butt.

Not true, Jeff. The law states that thow shall not *sell* amplifiers
capable of being used on 11 meters. This is why you can't buy
a 10 meter linear in the states. The manufacturer provides modification
instructions after the sale, and only to verified license holders.
Many folks have been shut down and fined by the FCC for just intending
to sell these illegal linears. "Problems" may occur when they are hooked
up to a radio and powered on, but it is true that the sale of such beasts
is in fact illegal.
