PLEASE EMAIL A REPLY TO n138ct@tamuts.tamu.edu BECAUSE OUR NEWS SERVER IS SHAKEY NOW... I need help with serial port setup. I've just been trying to use it with no luck at all. First attempt at serial port use: I set up serial port to have a terminal on it (the terminal being my mac with a null modem cable between the two). I got a "Welcom to UNIX PC" message, complete with a login: prompt. However, when I type in a username, I get the prompt "Pa:" and the "Welcome ..." and login: come back. I never get to enter the password; the login process (or getty?) gets canned before then. I set up the serial port using UA and told it there was a terminal at 9600 there. Clues, anybody? Second attempt: For my next trick I tried to hook up my Apple Imagewriter II printer to the serial port. I configured the printer to be a "AppleImage." However, when I print the system error [!!] appears in the status bar and the machine complains about not talking to the printer. I have a null-modem to the printer (actually the same cable I used for the mac). I'd like to know about other's success with serial printers, especially if anyone has used an IW 2 with the unix pc.
