[comp.sys.3b1] pathalias problems

merce@iguana.uucp (Jim Mercer) (06/01/91)

i added a combo board with 1.5 meg o' ram.

now pathalias fails with this:

pathalias: out of memory (0k allocated); notify the authorities

any idea what's happening?

	You probably have an older version of
	pathalias; it has a bug causing this
	diagnostic when it's not the case.

	It's fixed in versions which have sccsid dates
	of 89/11/20 or later in mem.c & mapaux.c.

pathalias/mapaux.c:static char	*sccsid = "@(#)mapaux.c	9.5 89/11/20";
pathalias/mem.c:static char	*sccsid = "@(#)mem.c	9.3 89/11/20";

nope.

i tried it again, using the -v option and it seemed to work.

would a Cnews expire take enough away to crash it?

On a 3b1, even with 3.5MB RAM? Without a doubt. Lots of things will
get in the way of pathalias. Even running mthreads (trn) is enough.

Probably not. But what about a 16 bit compress (news unbatching perhaps?)
or a memory hungry perl program?
