I have been using the ua Telephone Manager setup and the internal modem on my 3b1 to call dial-in sites. Sometimes it works fine, and sometimes the call will complete, the modem will connect, but I will get an error window before the Async Emulator is invoked that says: "Attempt failed when Terminal Emulator tried to set the group file access privilege to the users. '0','1'" I have spent some time looking around to see what the problem is, and haven't been able to pin anything down. A tour through various FAQ lists doesn't ring any bells, although I can't be the first user with this problem. I edited /etc/group to add account names (install seems not to have done this), set the privs on /etc/group to allow writes from other and group. Some creative grep'ing and string'ing does not smoke this message out of anything I can find. I spent some time today trying to track this down before posting. Removing the LCK and LTMP files from /usr/spool/uucp does not solve the problem. Software is 3.51 (upgraded from 3.0, not a new load), with FIXDISK2.0 installed (3.51m). I have also gotten other messages when trying to use the emulator, but haven't tracked down all of the failure scenarios. In all cases, the modem dials, connects, and something locks the terminal emulator startup. A recovery from this is a real nuisance---have to clear the locks, then reset the telephone (I am only using line 1). Also, are there control files somewhere for the vt100 emulator that I can change to allow backspace to be DEL rather than ^H? Where are the files for these functions? It sure would be nice if there were a list of all the 3B1 add-ons to SysV with a one-line description somewhere. Most of my work is with Ultrix (kernel level) and SysV is something of a "second language." -- Hank van Cleef vancleef@iastate.edu Iowa State University, Ames.
