Macaulay for the Amiga The commutative algebra / algebraic geometry program "Macaulay" is now available for the Amiga by ftp from "zariski.harvard.edu". "Macaulay" is a research-level mathematical program for those interested in the cohomology of coherent modules on projective varieties and related matters. The authors are Mike Stillman of Cornell and Dave Bayer of Columbia. Work on "Macaulay" was begun in the late 1970's. The program is largely platform independent. This Amiga port represents version 3 of the program. One gains access to "zariski.harvard.edu" by "ftp" with login = "ftp" and password = user-id. File retrieval should be confined to "off hours" in the Eastern U.S. time zone. The Amiga-specific files are: -rw-r--r-- 1 1132 70 1498 Apr 26 16:51 mac-amiga.txt -rw-r--r-- 1 1132 70 100250 Apr 26 14:02 mac3amy.zoo -rw-r--r-- 1 1132 70 36864 Apr 26 14:02 mac3amysrc.tar Files of relevance for the Amiga are: -rw-r--r-- 1 1132 40 2355200 May 8 1990 M3.tar -rw-r--r-- 1 1132 40 1137937 Sep 19 1989 macman.PS -rw-r--r-- 1 1132 40 6080 Nov 15 16:05 readme The file "mac3amy.zoo" is a "zoo" archive containing the Amiga executable of "Macaulay". Those wishing to use "Macaulay" on the Amiga will also want to retrieve the "tar" archive "M3.tar" in order to extract the help file and the scripts. The file "mac3amysrc.tar" is a "tar" archive containing "diffs" for seven of the Macaulay source files that had to be altered in order to port Macaulay to the Amiga. The original sources to which the "diffs" should be applied are found in the archive "M3.tar". The current executable was compiled in October, 1990 in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the State University of New York at Albany and still seems to be reliable as this note is being prepared on April 27, 1991. Questions on the Amiga implementation of "Macaulay" should be referred to William F. Hammond, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University at Albany (SUNYA), Albany, NY 12222, tel. 518-442-4625, email: hammond@leah.albany.edu. Question regarding "Macaulay" itself should be referred to the authors: Mike Stillman of Cornell and Dave Bayer of Columbia. -- Please see monthly postings for the disclaimer, the introduction, the charter, and submission instructions.
