CHEM194@csc.canterbury.ac.nz (John Davis) (05/18/91)
After seeing several postings from people asking for a more up to date virus killer than virusx4.01 (specifically the newer file virii), I have just placed the latest version of John Veldthuis Virus Checker on ab20.larc.nasa.gov (in the /incoming/amiga dir as VirusChecker522.lzh - though it's likely to be moved to one of the /amiga dirs shortly). This is one of the more regularly updated and reliable virus killers I've found - it currently deals with a LARGE range of virii, including the new Saddam and CCCP virii. Like Steve Tibbets VirusX it runs as a tiny window on workbench, constantly monitoring the systems RAM and any floppies you may insert, but it also has an option to check all files in a named path on demand (to check for link virii). The current version is 5.22 , with regular updates coming out as John finds new virii. If you do have any virus that it _doesn't_ id, you should contact johnv@tower.actrix.gen.nz to arrange getting an example to him so as he can put code to detect/remove it in the next release. -- Please see monthly postings for the disclaimer, the introduction, the charter, and submission instructions.
