A company called River Valley Ordnance in Harvester, MO has been running an ad in Shotgun News, selling what it calls surplus rifle powder. They say it is genuine US Military Surplus ball powder for loading 30 cal ammo. Each keg comes with loading data on the 30 cal and other calibers. A distributor, Pat McDonald in Massillon, OH, sells the stuff ($39/8 lbs. !) as WC 852-Lot # 47289 and says that the surplus powder is 'little FASTER (emphasis is mine) than H414'. The data sheet that comes with the keg recommends 55.5 gr of powder for 190 gr. BHTP while the Hodgdon manual recommends a MAXIMUM of 53 gr for a 190 gr. bullet! What is going on here? Why is the Hodgdon max load less than River Valley's recommended load? ____________________________ May all your scores be 'X's! _____________________________
