Hi there ! Just wondering if there's any restrictions about getting a license in the US for ,say a 9mm pistol.Do you have to have been member in a club or something. And do you have to shout a certain amount of points to get it.Since I'm from Sweden I'm just curious to know. wondering SWEDE [MODERATOR: This varies widely, depending upon the state you live in here. In some regions, you simply cannot own one without an affiliation with some police unit (e.g., the nation's capital, DC, home of one of the largest crime/murder rates in the country....) In others, clubs are essential, as you mention (this is similar to laws in your country, and Finland, etc. is this not so?). In other states there is no license required, though some paperwork is involved. This is typical for states where there is relatively less problem with violent crime. (As you can guess, people argue which is the cause and which the effect here!) Perhaps you have seen on these bulletin boards some discussion concerning proposed waiting periods that would come into effect nation wide. Anyway, I am providing the initial response to get the ball rolling, and to head off the next two dozen obvious responses. Now, if the original poster is sufficiently interested, then perhaps we can collect examples of the NRA brochures summarizing gun laws here, and send them off to Sweden?]
