[rec.guns] Re Dumb Beginner Questions

Consider taking the NRA's Personal Protection class. It does a few
things for you. It teaches safe gun handling, gives some basic
marksmanship training (oriented towards defensive use), describes basic
characteristics of handguns and usually has a bunch that you can handle,
and should give you information on local laws regarding handguns and
self-defense.

Something else it does for you is introduce you to someone local, the
instructor(s), who know about handguns. They probably have a bunch of
different ones they would be willing to let you try.

Here at work we have a bunch of friendly shooters who own one of just
about everything. So, if someone is looking for a gun and wants to try
one, we can usually arrange for the gun and the new shooter to be at a
range at the same time. When I started, I found shooters incredibly
willing to help. And, I still find that when someone shows up with the
latest and greatest toy, they are always willing to let others give it a
try. Now. if there are some folks reading rec.guns that live near you,
hopefully they can point you at a friendly range or club that could help
you out!

I think Hal is right. Most shooters I know are very friendly and helpful.

Hal has an excellent idea! I'll start the ball rolling. If anyone in
the North Seattle Wa area would like a 'trip to the Range' contact me via
Email. Range fees at the range I shoot at are $6.00 for as long as you
want to shoot, and Monday nights are ladies night, women shoot free. I'll
be willing to supply guns, and a limited amount of ammunition. The range
is located in South Everett, about 25 minutes North of down town Seattle.

I will provide basic safety and target shooting instruction.

If you are interested in continuing, there will be professionals available
to continue your education.

I have no connection with the range other than as a user.
