[rec.guns] Revolvers in IPSC Chapter 2

joeha@microsoft.COM (06/12/91)

Hokay, after managing to wade out from under the
responses on email and trying to keep up on rec.guns, I
am able to respond back on the public forum to what all of
you said to me.

First off, let me thank the Moderator for allowing my
original, and long, post to reach the NetAirWaves.

Almost everyone who answered is involved in a shooting
sport of some kind. By far and away, most of the answers
came from IPSC competitors. Nice to know rec.guns
people are out there learning the art.

Almost all of the responders answered the question, "why
has IPSC gone to the race guns?" Most answered that it
was the nature of the human beast to win for winning sake
without regard to what the competition actually meant in the
first place. That is sad and dangerous thing when we talk
about pieces of hardware that are so potent.

There were two positive points that were presented. One,
they all said I should get into IPSC no matter what. One
emailer suggested that I even join if all I had was a .38 spl.
That way I could get the practise I need for real life.

The second item they said was there was a movement
afoot to add a Stock category to the IPSC scoring
standards. There point being that there would be more
realistic wearing of gear and guns. Since all the guns
would be essentially be shot out of the box, revolvers
would be popular again due to their out of the box
reliability over stock autos that have not been to a
gunsmith. I'll be looking forward to Stock.

My machine is still sulking after receiving so much email.
But I'm feeding it some chocolate floppies and I think we
can be back on talking terms soon.

Again, thanks for the mail and posts. I've gotten a lot of
good information.
