I have installed a number of group grippers and _never_ had the problem described - failure of the slide to go completely into battery. that includes the convention GM version and the one on the buffer spring guide bar { full length}. There is one possibility: Are you sure the notch on the barrel link is facing forward? If not the barrrel canlock up but the effect you describe can be observed. Forward means towards the muzzle. CHL

I HAVE had the same problem EXACTLY. I called Wilson's about it and they
said to file the barrel link with some particular file. I never heard of
the type of file so I found something in my toolbox. I screwed up the
barrel link trying to file it. I filed more than possibly could be needed
to be filed and the same thing happened (slide not going into battery).
I ordered a barrel link only and figured I would need to go to a gunsmith
to have it installed. The barrel link faced the proper direction.
Go figure.
