[rec.guns] Rural long gun or such --- Range consideration

crs@beta.lanl.gov (Charlie Sorsby) (06/21/91)

# My favorite rifle was forgotten!! :-)
#
# The extra bullet size of the 35 make it great for lot's of tasks at
# the rural home. ( Not as much range, better stopping power...)

I hope that no one is inferring from this that this makes it safer
from the standpoint of firing without an adequate backstop.

*ANY* solid projectile has enough range to go far enough that you
won't know what or who is where it lands. PERIOD.

Normally when one speaks of a particular cartridge not having much
range it refers to the range at which it can be placed *accurately.*
It does *not* mean that it won't injure or kill on the other side
of that hill or in your neighbor's yard or living room.

Please be careful about statements that beginners may easily
misinterpret with tragic results.

Best,
