Sometime back I posted a message to this newsgroup asking about why my Galil rifle tended to damage spent brass on ejection and what could be done about it. I received several responses that mentioned a device called a "port buffer" which when installed cushioned the impact of the brass against the receiver upon ejection therefore preventing damage to the brass. I've tried to locate a source for the Galil port buffer, and even though I have not as yet located a definite source, I though that I should at least fill you in on what I have found out todate. Springfield Armory is now the U.S. distributor of Galil rifles, as well as other I.M.I. (Israel Military Industries) products. They will not, however, have any inventory until the Sept. '91 time frame. They will also not be a source of replacement or accessory parts for the I.M.I. products that they sell. They will be working in partnership with a company called Surplus Exchange that will be the parts supplier for Springfield Armory I.M.I. products. Surplus Exchange will not have an inventory of I.M.I. parts for another 3 to 6 months and they do not know at this time whether they will have a port buffer for the Galil. Surplus Exchange mentioned that they will announce the availablity of I.M.I. parts in the Shotgun News trades paper when they do have an inventory. I will wait for that and contact them again at that time. BTW: Thanks to all those who sent me info on the port buffer earlier. Henry Springfield Armory, Inc. 420 West Main Str.
