[comp.multimedia] Advice on low resolution editing

Hello COMP.MULTIMEDIA:

Am looking for a low cost system for a Macintosh to use for low
res (i.e. std. VHS) editing. I would like NOT to buy a medium
end price VCR like the NEC PC-VCR.

Does anyone have any experience with the VENT Video Master system?

Also, though it's not computer based, does anyone have any
experience with the Videonics DirectEd Plus?

I guess I should clarify that we would like to, among other things,
compile a "master tape" containing excerpts from a number of
research scenarios on several original tapes. We would also add
voice-over using an audio mixer. We would love to have frame
accurate control and absolutely clean edits, but our end goal
audience is not for "production" or sale but to help inform
other interested researchers about some of what we are doing.
Thus, accuracy to a couple of seconds and edits that aren't so
great would be tolerable.

In this regard, anyone have any recommendations for an editing
system including a couple of VCRs and the editing controller for
under $2500 total?

Any advice will be welcome.
