[comp.multimedia] Reference Texts on Fractal Math

jclark@sdcc6.ucsd.edu (John Clark) (02/02/91)

The other day someone mentioned using affine transformations to
obtain image compression. I made a statement about a book dealing
with the theory. I mis-attributed the author so here is the correct
information:

"Fractals Everywhere", Michael Barnsley, Academic Press 1988.
	ISBN 0-12-079062-9

"Fractal Geometry, Mathematical Foundations and Applications",
Kenneth Falconer, John Wiley and Sons, 1990
	ISBN 0-471-92287-0

These two books are for individual who have a reasonable math
background. (reasonable, means probably undergraduate degree or a
significant amount of work in a minor). These authors also have
papers written and so a article/author search should turn up
something were the use of Iterated Function Systems(Barnsley) in
regard to image compression.

I know I've seen something specificly dealing with the topic but I
haven't located the copys I made of the articles.
