[comp.multimedia] help wanted

swiers@plains.NoDak.edu (Mike Swiers ) (02/08/91)

I'm looking for the hardware and software to implment a graphical database of
motorcycles. My dad has a motorcycle salvage yard and he would like to keep
the vital stats stored in a computer, as well as a picture. It would be especially nice if this could be implemented on an Apple IIgs or Sun-2 based
machine.

Thanks,

Mike

I don't know about the Apple IIgs or the Sun-2, but this would be a real
simple application on an Amiga (I know the software/hardware exists for it).
What you would need:

		Amiga 500	-	$400-$600
			The basic computer.
		Monitor -	~$200
Can be replaced with a TV, but
picture would be better on a monitor.
		Hard Disk	-	~$350+ (>=40 Mbytes)
Someplace to store the pictures and
			information on-line.
		B/W video camera -	$150-$300
			For converting still pictures into
			digital images for the computer.
		DigiView	-	~$150 (I think, max($250))
Software that controls the B/W camera
			above to convert pictures.
		Superbase	-	$100-$350
Database system to keep track of the
			digial images with information. You
may only need the cheap version.
		Microfiche Filer -	~$150
			An alternative to Superbase.
		Thinker -	$75
An alternative to Superbase that is
			more hypertextual.
		Amigavision	-	~$150
An alternative to Superbase that is
more like hypercard on the Mac.
		Still camera	-	????
To take the pictures to put in front
of the B/W video camera to be converted
			to digital format.

		Total -	~$1500
