[comp.multimedia] CD-I and DVI: the same?

Rick_McCormack@mindlink.UUCP (Rick McCormack) (02/13/91)

In an ongoing discussion involving, among others, Nick Hoggard
<nick@abblund.se>, Eric Miller <eric@mcrware.UUCP>, kevin.laux
<rkl@cbnewsh.att.com>, comparisons have been made between these (non-competing,
IMHO) two media distribution systems. Clearly, DVI is going to work its way
through the business computer user. Just as clearly, CD-I will ignore that
market while concentrating on the mass consumer markets.

Both CD-I and DVI have been designed for their markets, and both seem to have
been relatively (in view of the quick changes in technology, anyway) well
thought out for their intended audiences. It doesn't look right now that the
success of one will spell the demise of the other (or the "coattail" success of
the other either!).

AS one other writer stated in this link recently, (and I paraphrase here): We
can do decent Full-motion video on a big screen - lets get on with making it a
useful tool.
