[comp.multimedia] Lumena-DVI Scanmaster II problems

Lumena-DVI - Howtek Scanmaster II hookup
----------------------------------------

I'm in the process of hooking up a Howtek Scanmaster II to our DVI workstation
(ActionMedia 750 Capture and Delivery boards) - unfortunately I'm having a lot
of problems getting the scanner to run with Lumena. I was hoping that
someone out there has been through the process and can spot any oversights in
our installation procedure (which I'll outline below):

1. Set the IO base address to 280H on the GPIB card (this was
        recommended by the dealer).

2. Next, I loaded the GPIB software/drivers from the GPIB
        distribution disks. The config.sys file was automatically
        updated to load the GPIB driver (see copy of config.sys file
        later on).

3.	I set the GPIB address of the Scanner to 7.

4. I executed the diagnostic program, supplied with the GPIB driver -
        IBDIAG, and tested the board functionality for the following
        setup:

        IO Address:             280H
        Interrupts:             None
        DMA Channel:            None

        The test came out positive.

	(I assumed that the above interrupt and DMA setting were appropriate,
	 since the GPIB board supplied by the dealer was set to the above
	 configuration, and they claimed that they had tested the whole set
	 up before shipping it to us.)

5. I next executed IBCONF to update the GPIB handler to the
        configuration above - and executed another test program
        IBTEST - no problems were detected.

6. Modified the config.sys file to the dealer recommended
        invocation of 386Max:

        device=386Max.sys Norom Ram=D000-E000 vidmem=B000-C000

7. I next executed Lumena's "Change" batch file and added in the
        Howtek Scanmaster II option.

8. Rebooted the whole system, checked the available conventional RAM
        (which came up to around 560K - Lumena requires something like
        540K to function). Checked that the Lumena copy protection block
        was installed correctly, and tried to run Lumena. The Lumena
        introduction text block was displayed and then the system just
        hung.

I've included some of the more germane portions of our config.sys file:

Config.sys File
----------------

files=20
BUFFERS=10
device=c:\386Max.sys NoRom Ram=D000-E000 vidmem=B000-C000
device=d:\V\BIN\VRAM.SYS
shell=C:COMMAND.COM /E:1600 /P
device = c:\gpib-pc\gpib.com

If anyone out there has been through the installation process, I'd appreciate
either a posting or a direct e-mail. Thank you.

(BTW, Singapore is neither part of Mongolia or Peru - yes, I've actually
received mail addressed to 'Singapore, Peru') :).
