[comp.multimedia] Video Boards for Sun Workstations

lowery@thumper.bellcore.com (Carlyn M. Lowery) (06/06/91)

I am interested in doing real-time video display, image capture, and of
course, ultimately real-time video compression and decompression on Sun
workstations under X11 (MIT's version). If you have experience with
add-on cards for Suns, such as Parallax, Videopix, or RasterOps, I'd
like to hear your thoughts on usability and functionality. I'm also
particularly interested in the programming interfaces.

The current RasterOps board works only under sunview and not under X. There is
proported to be beta version however. I believe Videopix is little more than a
digitizer. Although I haven't seen anything from parallax recently, their stuff
has traditionally blown me away (reads excellent), and it cost the most ~7,000.
