[comp.multimedia] Traffic Modelling of MPEG and H.261

I.Wakeman@cs.ucl.ac.uk (06/13/91)

Hi,
I'm looking to build a traffic generator that will simulate the pattern
of data that comes out of an MPEG or an H.261 video encoder (H.261 is
the ccitt recommendation for video telephony). What I'm looking for are
the sizes of typical frames that come out of these coding methods, for
all of the wonderful and various methods of frame encoding that can be
made, after they've gone through the entropy coding that's recommended.
Do the standards have enough information to make informed guesses (which
I will know when I manage to get my greasy mitts on them)?

If not, Does anyone have any idea where I might get my hands on this sort
of data, for typical scenes? I only want to build a traffic generator for
testing network level things - I do not want real video frames.

thanks in advance
ian
