[comp.multimedia] STOP! No more ...

Rick_McCormack@mindlink.bc.ca (Rick McCormack) (06/13/91)

flame wars here! Everyone -- back off for a week. We ALL have biases for or
against some things on certain machines. (Old joke: I am biased, you are
prejudiced, he is pig-ignorant.) But I think most of the users of this group
want to discuss either specific problems or solutions to problems. If everyone
bites his tongue for one week on the instant flame replies, maybe we can get
back to using this group productively.

I am a Mac user - cause I needed it for a course I was involved in. I have a
PC, cause I used it for business. I would gladly have an Amiga, or a Sun or a
Next, if it solved a problem and made me money.

When I ask about a problem, and someone comes on and says: "you can solve that
problem with an XXX!" I would like to also know that I will need to buy Z at
$DDD.cc. I am NOT helped by a follow-up saying: "Why would anyone take that
crappy approach?" I AM helped by: "I use QQQ toi do that all the time, and I
don't need Z, so you save $DDD.cc."

The only difference in the two approaches is one of attitude -- the first one
attempts to score points by putting down another person's helpful advice, while
the second one points out the advantages of a different approach.

Please, lets each practice just a modicum of responsibility for one week. When
you post, make it helpful. Criticize, but in a positive direction. Give
details about why YOUR approach is (a) quicker, (b) cheaper and/or (c) fun,
challenging, adventurous, etc.

Finally, I think most of us are NOT interested in personal attacks on ANY
poster to this group. Repeat: I think most of us are NOT interested in personal
attacks on ANY poster to this group. Use e-mail to solve internal disputes,
and when you have reached agreement, post to the group.

Thanks for your patience in reading this far. Only one week -- please try it.
