I understand the techinical differences between DCTV and HAM-E, but I have not had the opportunity to actually SEE both of them (I have briefly seen DCTV). Posts I have read from users of both indicate that people are happy with the results, but I still don't have any information about how they compare. Can someone who has used these devices (but without a financial interest in either company) comment on the subjective image quality of stills and animations. Blackbelt's marketing hype touts the "sharpness" of their device (as RGB) while DCTV's strength appears to be smooth color transitions. How smooth are color transitions in the HAM-E's HAM mode? What is the picture degradation when using DCTV's 3 bit mode? I plan to eventually get one of these (or Colorburst) for displaying stills and anims produced with Imagine. The ultimate destination is videotape, but I have a Y/C genlock and S-VHS equipment and am very pleased with the quality of Y/C encoded RGB on S-VHS. I also do a fair amount of genlocked titling and consider HAM-E's compatibility with genlocks and software such as the Director to be a plus. Jim Lange Oracle Corporation
