[comp.sys.amiga.graphics] DCTV -> Toaster

Hi there, I've been playing with DCTV and the Toaster for some time now and I'd
like to share a couple of findings with you.

In my opinion DCTV is just about the perfect paintbox for the toaster.
Although toasterpaint is a nice program, DCTV blows it out of the water! I
have found a one difficulty using the two together though. It seems that if
you have both the toaster and DCTV plugged into the same machine then the
toaster is apt to get uptight about it. DCTV will work flawlessly with a
toaster, but the toaster will display some rather odd 'chroma' effects with
_some_ toaster graphics. This takes the form of strobing lines (much like HAM
fringing) appearing on the program and preview monitors. I have no fix for
this other than disconnecting DCTV when using the toaster.

I have seen/heard that people are getting 'banding' when putting DCTV pics
into such things as the mimetics frame buffer or even the toaster. Well, I've
gotten this banding when taking toaster RGB's and loading them into DCTV, but
when I save the pic as a 24 Bit IFF from DCTV and reload into the toaster
this banding is not evident. I even took a DCTV 'Display' format pic,
converted it to 24bit then loaded it into the toaster with no ill effects.

also, there is indeed some 'fringing' associated with DCTV pics under
magnification, and some color bleed (very slight 98% of the time) which I
find dissappear totally when I import the picture into the toaster. If you
are using DCTV as a paintbox for the toaster, DO NOT use the 'filter fill'
option to rid yourself of NTSC defects, the toaster fixes everything I've
tossed at it without any loss of image clarity.

Sadly, this DCTV - toaster combo is not my own. :( But, I SHALL be purchasing
a DCTV just as soon as the pocketbook can afford it. With the realtime
(pseudo)24bit animations it makes a wonderful substitute for the single frame
controller and deck :)

Happy painting all
