I just acquired a Framegrabber 256 video image digitizer from Progressive Peripherals and am very impressed by what I have seen so far. However, it doesn't quite fulfill my needs. I bought it under the expectation that I would be able to digitize off of videotape, in both color and b/w. The description I was given led me to believe that I would be able to digitize moving images in b/w and freeze frames in color, which, of course, is not what the FG 256 does. I have a description of just the straight Framegrabber in my AC guide, and it says it can digitize 4096 color images in 1/30 of a second, which is close enough to real-time for my purposes. I have also been told that there is a colorizing routine that comes with the FG 256 software. Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the FG and FG 256? Is the FG 256 more expensive because it has 24-bit conversion capability that the original FG doesn't have? Is there a colorizing routine that I haven't found yet? If so, how does it perform? E-mail preferred.
