With all this talk about democracies(on net.general), I'd like to point out that majority rule means mob rule. Everyone can vote for representatives in the government, but the government can't do something just because the mob wants it. There's nothing magic about large numbers. The important question is: what is the purpose and proper function of government? To leave the road open for the government to do anything the mob or most powerful group wants is not a good idea, even if it is called democracy. And that's just what is done when political systems are judged by their 'democratic ideals'.
