[comp.sys.amiga.graphics] X server

rfrench@neon.Stanford.EDU (Robert S. French) (05/30/91)

I remember a long time ago there was a B/W X server released for the
Amiga as a product. Is there an X11 server (B/W or color) currently
available in the public domain? I have a friend who would like to
write one as an exercise and make it PD, but doesn't want to duplicate
the effort if someone has already done it (I don't see one on the Fish
disks up through #440).

No, not ported to AmigaDOS yet. The X libraries are ported though, and
your friend can find people who are likewise interested (but without
the time available, it seems) on the mailing list
amiga-x11@lists.funet.fi, currently around 140 subscribers. The list is
also meant for general discussions on X using the Amiga.
You can subscribe to the mailing list in a two step procedure:

1) send a mail message to mailserv@lists.funet.fi containing a message
body of:

	HELP
	LIST

That will get you an automated reply with full instructions and a list
of available mailing lists. Look for the subscribe command in the HELP
reply, and amiga-x11 in the LIST reply.

2) follow the instructions received.
