[comp.sys.amiga.graphics] Tektronix 4693D printer driver

rjtatz@magnus.acs.ohio-state.edu (Robert J Tatz) (06/01/91)

Does anyone know where to get the printer driver for a Tektronix 4693D color
printer? Or at least where to start looking (I tried ab20).

Thanks,
Bob rjtatz@magnus.acs.ohio-state.edu

The Tektronix_4693D driver is on the V2.0 Extras disk. You can find it
in devs/printers. Below are the docs for it.

Tektronix_4693D
---------------
1. Thermal transfer b&w/color printer (graphics only).
2. Densitie(s) supported are 300x300(1) dpi.
3. Due to the way the printer images a picture none of the printer
preferences options affect the printout with the following exceptions:
        a)Aspect - Horizontal, Vertical
        b)Shade - B&W, Grey_Scale, Color
...as a result of this only full size pictures can be printed.
4. Keypad menu option 3b COLOR ADJUSTMENT may be set from the keypad.
For normal prints this option should be set to "do not adjust".
5. Keypad menu option 3d VIDEO COLOR CORRECTION may be set from the keypad.
For normal prints this option should be set to "do not adjust".
6. Keypad menu option 5 BACKGROUND COLOR EXCHANGE may be set from the
keypad. For normal prints this option should be set to "print colors
   as recieved".
7. Once a picture has been printed additional copies may be printed
whithout resending by using the printer's keypad.
8. The Preferences density settings are used to control the total number of
lines the printer is able to support. This is necessary for programs
that send pictures to the printer in strips (commonly referred to as
'strip printing'). Programs which are known to do this are
   Professional Page, ProWrite, Shakespeare,
Excellence!, and DeluxePhotoLab. Generally, for these programs you'll
want to select a density of 1 which corresponds to 750 lines. The rule
of thumb here is that you want the # of lines that the printer has to
be greater than or equal to the actual # of lines that will be sent to
the printer. The closer the match the better. The reason '750' was
chosen is as follows. These programs tend to work in an internal
resolution of 75 dpi and usual print 10 inches on a standard 8.5 x 11
inch sheet of paper. Thus the number 750 is derived from 75 x 10.
   Here are the settings:
   Denstiy Lines
   ------- -----
      1 750
      2 1040
      3 1330
      4 1620
      5 1910
      6 2200
      7 2492 (maximum for a 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper)
9. Selecting a PaperType of SINGLE from Preferences allows printing on
transperencies. In this mode the printer puts out extra black.

It comes with 2.0, and Tektronix will provide you with the one for 1.3.
