Sorry but that's just what we *don't* need. Adult GIFs converted to
DCTV that were originally scanned from *copyrighted* magazines
running all over the net and for sale on disks. The biggest waste of
time and hardware IMHO. I just can't see why anyone would want to
even try this or waste any of their time doing this. Why not just
spend your time productively by actually producing *original* art on
the DCTV rather than converting copyrighted worthless images.

If you want to produce something and sell it, why not produce
something useful like backgrounds, scenes, still-lifes and the like.
How about you go out and take some nice photographs of sunsets and
then digitize them into DCTV and sell them.

We don't need any more X-rated scans from porno magazines or the
centerfold of the month. I'm just so sick and tired of this that
it's not even a joke anymore.

If anyone wants to jump down my throat because of my opinion, then I
suggest you drop me some e-mail and I will discard it as fast as it
arrives.

So far, I agree - we really don't need Bob Guccione et al. harrassing
us, and stuff I'm interested in (like the stuff Desmodus puts out;
Drummer, Mach etc) is on shaky enough financial ground that I don't
really feel right distributing it electronically far and wide. Let
alone sell it. However:

Because original art doesn't make your naughty bits act naughty?

Something "useful" like a still-life?? Or yet another sunset?? Sorry
guy, but I'd rather be looking at an attractive naked man than yet
another unfocused (artwise, not photowise) abstract/pastoral subject.
Other than nudes, *my* favorite things to digitize are Roger Dean
album covers. I'm just not about to *sell* another artist's work.

Read my lips, babe: If you don't like it, *don't download it*. If
you're a newsadmin, stop the influx of alt.sex.pictures (our local
site did). But don't shit on someone else's picnic. (hmm, did I just
make up a new cliche?)

No, I thought I'd waste some net bandwidth with a nice flame.
Immature and pointless, but it sure is more satisfying to know it's
falling on 40,000 sets of ears, only most of which may be deaf, rather
than one ignorant set.

Following up to my own article here folks-

I've had positive responses and a negative response via E-mail. However, let's
NOT start this moral squabbling. I'm nuking my original post, it's not worth
my time if this is going to cause another flame fest. I'll honor the original
E-mail requests I had.

Huh- hadn't occurred to me. Most of my images are from 'PD Disks' sold by
various companies or from free BBS's...

*Sigh* It wasn't a 'produce and sell' venture. I'm doing the conversions
anyway and was willing to distribute them. (C'mon now- $1 for a disk barely
covers media, packaging, and shipping, much less my time- I already have a
job...)

Regardless (and depending if I had the distribution set right on my other
message), I'm withdrawing my offer. I don't want a moral battle in the
wrong newsgroup tarnishing my conscience. :-P

I was referring to scenes that could be used as image maps for 3D
objects or backgrounds for composites and the like. Images that can
be of further use to the rest of the graphics community to produce
more artistic images. If you know anything at all about photography
you would know that there are stock houses who sell images for
further use by advertising agencies and the like. Some photo houses
use some of the sunsets and flowers and other such images as portions
of other images and backgrounds/backdrops for thier work. We could
do the same.

I certainly will not be obtaining copyrighted electronic nudes. And
babe, it's a free world so I will shit on anyone's picnic I darn well
please. Besides, it's only my opinion and not policy. <grin>

Jezz, people are *very* quick to call others names on the net arn't
they!?! Here is a person I don't even know and just because he
doesn't like my opinion on a matter he has to go and start some sort
of personal attack. Personally, I could care less. I just hope that
others on the net are mature enough not to begin personal attacks on
other netters just because they don't agree with them.

What is your definition of a commercial venture? When you start paying people
for costs and tiem, that's commercialism. My employer pays me for my time.
We pay developers for their time and costs to produce high quality software.

Agreed! Another commercial venture raping the profits from someone else's
work shouldn't be supported. On the other hand, if he was to find subjects
willing to pose for original works, that would be different.
