I have just received a copy of MED 3.0 and I think it is the best prog out
. I was just wondering if anyone knows if Teijo Kinnunen has an address that he
can be reached on the networks. I thought I saw a previous post with mention to
it but I couldnt find it. I was just wondering because I thought EMail might be
just a bit faster.

I've been looking for MED for some time now. I've also seen several
other people asking about it. So, tell me, where can I obtain MED 3.0? Is
it public domain? Freeware? Shareware? Commercial? Any information will
be appreciated.

Some more thoughts on MED3.0. Firstly, may I say I think it's an
incredible product, and having such sophisticated and robust
software available in the public domain is one of the Amiga's
big selling points. Teijo Kinnunen has supported the product and
listened to what people want/need, and that's more than most
commercial companies do for their users. OK, grovelling over, there
are a few criticisms! Firstly, one thing that would be nice to
do is to load/save a range of blocks or tracks rather than the whole
song. For example, if you have two pieces that you realise would
sound pretty good together, then you've got to type in the second
part all over again. On a similar tack, how about a printout routine
for listing your songs? I must say that I preferred the old title
bar - the timer's nice, it should stay, but I think that 3.0 doesn't
look quite as snappy as previous versions (also due to the more
easily readable but rather uglier main menu). I'm not sure that the
horizontal scrolling song list works all that well. It's hard to
see what's going on most of the time. Finally, the documentation
doesn't say what hardware you need to use the sampling features.
It would be nice to know what device it uses (PAR:, SER:, NIL: ??? :-))
Thoughts?

Having only just started to use the amiga for music and graphics
instead of non-stop games.I would like to know any good music programs
for beginners ones that are not to complex.I have heard that MED 3.0
is very good,I came across the earlier version given with Amiga Format
and found that easy to use.So can someone mail me the address of a
good cheap public domain distibutor were i can get this and some other
good PD utilities.

Cheers

Try abcfd20.larc.nasa.gov in the incoming/amiga directory. I keep a up to date
list of FILES.Z from all of abcfd20 so I can just grep for stuff. You can find
FILES.Z on abcfd20 in /FILES.Z ...

Med 3.0 Really is very excellent. Some people complain because it doesn't
display things in standard music notation like many popular commercial programs,
but in my opinion the interface it uses [4mcuts the crap[m and allows for
more powerful musical work.

MED 3.0 is very UGLY. I have used couple of years Soun/Noise and now
the Protracker, and even the first version of ST wasn't so ugly.

Why don't you help this coder and give him some graphics. Even the program
would be very good, I can't use if it looks like a ...

I haven't seen any European musician, who would use this MED.

Well, here I am. No matter how nice the graphics of all those Soundtrackers,
Noisetrackers, Startreckers, Whizzy-Dizzy-Trackers might ever be, there is
absolutely no point in using such system-unfriendly programs on an AMIGA.

I used the Soundtracker quite a while back in 1987, when it first appeared
here in Germany, but then I had only 512k back in those old days, and I
couldn't have cared less about system-friendlyness and multitaskability,
with no RAM left to spare.

Now I have lots of RAM, lots of harddisk-space, am running system 2.0 even
on my beloved old 1000 - why even bother with those braindead non-multitasking
ancient soundtrackers and their clones ?

MED 3.0 is the only music program I use at the moment. JamCracker Pro
looked also nice (it is using the req.library), but it didn't work under 2.0,
so I don't use it. Period. And that goes also for all those music programs
that don't multitask. Period again.

Please stop flaming this great MED just because it hasn't got nifty
graphics. And if you want them so urgent: Draw them yourself. Send
them to Teijo. But stop complaining about a program you got for free.

Best regards,
Holger
