Hi there,

Well, I just ftp'ed the Trackplay beta to ab20! It's sitting in
incoming/amiga. Go and get it! Here's the readme:

* WARNING *

THIS IS BETA SOFTWARE. This software is not meant to be viewed as a
finished project. So if you find bugs, or if your pet feature is
missing, don't whine and complain. Just tell me about it in a useful
way, with useful information. No one likes a whiner :-). Also, read
the disclaimer in Trackplay.doc :-). And don't think just because this
is a beta version that you don't need to register. Your registrations
are the only thing which will give me incentive to continue work on this
program. See Trackplay.doc for info on bug reports, etc.

* WHAT IS IT ? *

What is Trackplay ? Trackplay is a music playback program which plays
Soundtracker, Noisetracker, and Med MMD0 modules. See Trackplay.doc for
into on where to get these. I've included one sample module in the
   Modules sub-directory.

* SPECIAL BETA INSTRUCTIONS *

In addition to the instructions given in Trackplay.doc, apply these for
   the beta release:

This version has been distributed in four forms because of operating
system differences between AmigaDOS 1.3 and AmigaDOS 2.0, and other
   factors explained below:

trackplay.ciaa - Uses the CIA A Timer A for a timing source. This
is useful for people who run AmigaDOS 1.3 on 68K
based Amigas. This version should be used if you
plan to use the serial port at high data rates while
playing music. If the CIA B version is used, there
is a possibility that the machine may drop
characters due to the higher hardware priority of
the CIA B Timers. This version will not work on
machines running AmigaDOS 2.0, since the operating
system takes this timer for itself.

trackplay.ciab - Uses the CIA B Timer A for a timing source. This
is for AmigaDOS 2.0 users and Amiga 3000s, since 2.0
won't let you use CIA A Timers. This also works on
AmigaDOS 1.3, but on the slower 68K machines may
experience serial port data loss at high speeds
due to the high priority of the CIA B Timer
interrupts. I didn't notice any character loss on
Amiga 3000s running at high data rates. I haven't
tested this on accelerated Amigas, but I expect
much the same results I found on the A3000.

   trackplay.ciaam
         and
trackplay.ciabm - These are the same as trackplay.ciaa and
trackplay.ciab except that they have MIDI support
for Med modules which use MIDI devices. These will
allocate the serial port, so if you use this, you
can't use your modem, unless you have an external
                       serial port.

I hope to to come up with an improved timing scheme in the future, and
implement a line switch to toggle MIDI on/off, which will abolish the
need for these multiple versions. For now, it's better than nothing
   :-).

Well, that's about it for this readme. Now go and read Trackplay.doc.
It is formatted so it can be dumped straight to your printer. Try:

         type >par: Trackplay.doc
                  or
         type >prt: Trackplay.doc

Sorry to those with Postscript laser printers. You'll have to
   Postscriptify it :-).

   C'ya,

      -Jim
