Has anyone out there ever tried Bars and Pipes Professional? I would like to practice my transcription skills by plunking notes on a staff and then playing them back to see if I got the time values exactly right. I have the package at home, but I have two problems: 1) I don't have a MIDI instrument 2) I seem to be having a difficult time with the user interface. The user-interface is better than most I've seen, but strange things happen to the time values of the notes I try to put down. I can't give any specific examples since it's been a while since I tried it. Maybe I just need to read the documentation again. Anyway, Blue Ribbon Soundworks tells me that there is an add-on called "Internal sounds" that would make it do what I want. Has anyone used this? Does it become one of the many existing utilities, or is it a separate program that multitasks? Will it play the notes as I am plunking them on the staff? -- Jim Logan Home: logan%gimlet@uunet.uu.net Consultant Work: logan@netx.com Net Express, Inc. Phone: (703) 749-2269

One problem with putting down notes in either of the three formats (standard musical notation / block notation / keyboard scroller) seems to depend on what key signature you use. If you use non-standard major/minor signatures (e.g.; Blues, Pentatonic, self-defined, etc.), the placement of the individual notes aren't quite where your cursor is. This effect seems to have remained between the previous version of Bars & Pipes and the Professional. Working outside of strict signatures and then importing the Master Parameters key signature to the track in question seems to be a reasonable method of avoiding the placement bug, but it's still quite annoying. -- _____ _ ______ /____/ /_\ /__ __/ Andy House // // \\ // Capitol Video // // \\ __ // 2121 Wisconsin Ave. NW // // // /_/ // Washington, D.C. 20007 //_____ //____// __//__ 202-625-0186/202-965-7800 /______/ /______/ /_____/ house@capitol.com -- _____ _ ______ /____/ /_\ /__ __/ Andy House // // \\ // Capitol Video // // \\ __ // 2121 Wisconsin Ave. NW
