I'm in the market for a computer, and the Amiga is one of my choices (particularly the 3000). The Macintosh (maybe IIsi) is the other. I need the computer for school related work (word processing, remote login to UNIX mainframe), but I'd like to use it for music later when I have the funds to expand on the system. Here's the question - what's available for the Amiga that will enable it to do 16-bit sampling? My understanding is to get CD quality sound, 16-bit is the way to go. At the moment, I'm in no terrible need of it, but I'd like to have the option later on (perhaps when I've been 'discovered' :-) ). What I'm most interested in is sampling (and related tasks to tweaking the sounds) and sound synthesis in general. Also, I need good editing features in general so that I can transcribe pieces and slice them up at will. Specific names and approximate prices would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! (Oh, and if you have any comments in general about why I would want an Amiga over a Mac, please fill me in!) Send all responses to: janti@athena.arc.nasa.gov -Joel
